REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NATIONAL LAND SERVICE VISIT THE FINNISH NATIONAL LAND SURVEY

On October 15-18th, representatives of the National Land Service paid a working visit to the Finnish National Land Agency "Maanmittauslaitos". This is the second visit of the NLS under the international cooperation project "Exchange of knowledge and best practices related to the modernization of activities in the fields of land management, electronic registers, geodesy, cartography and spatial data sets between the National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania and the relevant Finnish and Norwegian authorities”

Laimonas Čiakas, Director of the National Land Service, Algis Bagdonas, Deputy Director, Giedrė Baltušytė, Chief Specialist of the Land Management Division of the Land Management and Administration Department and Aušrinė Lisauskienė, Chief Specialist of the Public Relations Department visited the Finnish institution. The goal of the NLS representatives was to get acquainted with the activities of the Finnish National Land Agency, cadasters and registers operating in the country, as well as geodetic and cartography activities, to deepen the strengths and weaknesses of the operating systems and to explore the possibilities of adapting the most modern methodologies in Lithuania. It was also important to learn about Finnish achievements and exchange good practice.

Director of the NLS Laimonas Čiakas presented his Finnish colleagues with the main areas of activity of the institution, achievements at the European level, as well as the Land Planning Documentation Information System (ZPDRIS) and the latest achievements in various fields.

Representatives of the Finnish authorities made an extensive presentation of their activities: strategic directions and innovative approach, introduced the innovative ways of customer service, cadasters and land registers used and register of buildings to be created. They also presented the achievements in the field of land consolidation, the existing legal framework, aerial investigations, as well as innovations in geodesy, geodynamics and cartography, and the methodology used by the institution in information and communication technologies. The work of the Finnish Institute for Spatial Research, which has gained world-wide recognition, has been particularly interesting.

Leaders of both the institutions Laimonas Čiakas and Arvo Kokkonen and Development Director Pekka Halme discussed further opportunities for developing cooperation in initiating joint institutional and research projects.
