Laimonas Čiakas starts to lead the National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture (NLS).

According to Minister of Agriculture Bronius Markauskas, changes in the National Land Service are crucial, as more than half of the complaints received by the Ministry are related to the work of the Service. The main urgent tasks that the new leader of the Service is to implement, names the Minister, is not only to restore confidence in the institution, but also to complete the unforeseen prolongation of the restoration of property rights and, in particular, to strengthen measures to prevent corruption.

"Of course, rebuilding the trust of the NLS in the eyes of the public is an essential objective towards which the work of the Service will move. Also it is important to find the reasons for the factors that led to the problems of the NLS, which remained unresolved. There will have to be a lot of consistent change",– says Laimonas Čiakas, the new leader of the NLS, who has majored in economics and management at the Academy of Agriulture.

L. Čiakas also emphasizes that the NLS is carrying out a special mission - ensuring the proper use of land, the largest state property, therefore, the issues of smooth restoration of ownership rights to land and control of state land will be given priority attention.

Since 2011 March, L. Čiakas has worked for the State Audit Office, has recently headed the First Audit Department of the National Audit Office. Until then he worked as an advisor to the Lithuanian Seimas Committee on European Affairs, and earlier – to the Ministry of Agriculture.
